Pet cremation costs in Ireland: what’s included and how to budget
Losing a pet is painful in a way that is hard to put into words. Practical decisions still have to be made, though, and having clear information at that moment makes all the difference.
This guide covers how pet cremation costs work in Ireland, what Rainbow Bridge Pet Cremation includes as standard, and how to estimate your total without any surprises. Straightforward scenarios by weight are included at the end, along with answers to the most common questions.
If you would rather speak to someone directly, we can send a full quote the same day by phone or email.

How pricing works: weight bands and what’s included
At Rainbow Bridge Pet Cremation in Portlaoise, pricing is based on your pet’s weight. Weight-band pricing keeps things fair and predictable across all breeds and sizes. Our prices are always listed on our website, but when you get in touch, we will confirm the correct band and the full cost with no hidden extras.
Every individual cremation includes:
* Guaranteed private cremation under our single-pet protocol, so the ashes returned are solely your pet’s
* A biodegradable scatter tube, suitable for scattering or temporary safekeeping
* A framed paw print keepsake
Those three items cover what most families need. Urns and personalised keepsakes are available as optional add-ons.

What private cremation means and why it matters
Private means individual. Only one pet is ever in the chamber at a time. From the moment we collect your pet, a Pet Intake Form and a unique identifier stay with them throughout every step of the process. A copy of that document comes home with the ashes.
We aim to return ashes within four working days of collection. Many families receive them sooner, though timing can vary. If cremation cannot happen immediately, your pet rests in a chilled room until the service takes place.
Optional add-ons: urns and keepsakes
Some families prefer to keep all ashes together in a full-size urn at home. Others like to carry a small portion close in a piece of jewellery. Neither choice is more right than the other. What matters is what feels fitting for you and for your pet’s memory.
Most requested options:
● Full-size urns to hold all ashes together at home. Browse our selection of pet cremation urns if you want something permanent and on display.
● Keepsakes and jewellery that hold a small portion of ashes, such as a paw print necklace or bracelet. Explore our cremation keepsakes range if you prefer something subtle and personal.
A practical note: keepsake jewellery holds only a very small amount of ashes. If you want to keep everything together, choose a full-size urn sized to your pet’s weight and consider adding a keepsake piece later as a token. We are happy to advise on capacity and fit.

Collection, drop-off, and when a small extra charge may apply
We collect from your home or your veterinary clinic across Ireland. You can also arrange an appointment-only drop-off at our Portlaoise facility if that feels more comfortable.
Collection of your pet is included in the price for locations within an hour of Portlaoise. A small additional collection charge may apply for locations more than one hour from Laois. This is always confirmed upfront when you call, based on distance and timing.
A return service is also available though a small charge may apply. If you are nearby, ask about our Portlaoise door-to-door pet collection service when you get in touch.
Budgeting examples to help you estimate
The scenarios below show how weight bands and optional choices influence the total cost.

Adult cat, 6 kg
Weight band: under 10 kg is €250
Included: private cremation, biodegradable scatter tube, framed paw print.
Optional extras: a small ceramic urn or photo-box urn if you want to keep all ashes together; if scattering is the plan, the included tube is usually enough.
Common additions for cats: a compact urn or a delicate necklace keepsake.
Budget note: most families in this band keep costs close to the base price by using the included scatter tube and adding a small keepsake only if they wish.
Dog, 20 kg
Weight band: 11 to 20 kg is €300.
Included: private cremation, biodegradable scatter tube, framed paw print.
Optional extras: a medium-capacity urn to hold all ashes together; or a keepsake for a portion of ashes and the included tube for the remainder.
Collection: if you are more than one hour from Laois, factor in a modest travel supplement.
Budget note: the total depends on whether you add an urn. Choosing keepsake jewellery instead tends to keep the cost closer to the base price.
If you are unsure which urn size suits your pet’s weight, we will guide you. Capacity varies between models, and the right size means you keep all the ashes together without any worry.

Quick guide: keepsake jewellery or full-size urn?
If you plan to scatter: use the included biodegradable tube and consider a small keepsake to hold a symbolic portion.
If you want everything together: choose a full-size urn sized to your pet’s weight. A small keepsake can always be added later for special occasions.
If you haven’t decided yet: keep the ashes in the scatter tube for now or inside a sealed bag. There is no rush. An urn or keepsake can be chosen when you feel ready.
Our team can also help with personalised touches, including bespoke paw print keepsakes, so the memorial truly reflects your pet’s personality.
